LEGAL KICK-START: GETTING THE FOUNDATIONS RIGHT

LEGAL KICK-START: GETTING THE FOUNDATIONS RIGHT

Legal requirements can seem daunting when you make that decision to start-up. This is true for many, but the fact is to operate legally, and to protect your business interests……they can’t be avoided.

But the good news is, they are much easier to manage if you understand your obligations sooner rather than later.

If you take the time to understand the basics at the outset it’s really not as scary as it seems, and you can make informed decisions on what the right approach is for you and your business.

Led by legal specialists from Shulmans LLP (a UK top 200 corporate law firm), this free half-day seminar will give you an overview of the legal matters that really matter in your start-up journey.

We’ll cover:

CONTRACT FORMATION

Contracts form the bedrock of the business world. Avoid the potential for unwanted legal landslides by understanding how enforceable contracts are formed, and how to manage them throughout their lifetime.

IP – PROTECTING YOUR IDEAS
It’s essential to protect your Intellectual Property, and a common mistake for start-ups is to create ideas without understanding how to protect them. We’ll look at an overview of IP, how it arises and what you can do to protect it.

EMPLOYMENT

Taking on your first members of staff is a major commitment. This step on your business’ journey can be daunting and it has even been known to make or break a start-up. We’ll talk you through some of the key terms of employment and ways to navigate the hazards that catch many new employers out.

COMMERCIAL PROPERTY

Buying or leasing your first business premises is a huge milestone for a start-up. It’s essential before you contract to buy or to lease that you have understood what your commitments are, the costs associated with buying or leasing a property and your exit strategy. We’ll talk you through common pitfalls to avoid and key points you need to consider, which should give you the confidence to make the best decision for your business.

Led by digital strategist Jonny Ross from Fleek Marketing (one of Yorkshire Business Insider’s ‘42 under 42’), this 3 hour marketing masterclass gives an overview of all the main marketing channels and social media platforms, explaining how to use them and exploring which ones are best to reach different target audiences.

  • Whether you need consent for direct marketing and what other options are available?
  • How to obtain compliant consent?
  • Where is marketing law going in the future?

Led by legal specialists from Shulmans LLP (a UK top 200 corporate law firm), this 1 hour seminar will demystify the rules that apply to businesses in relation to unsolicited direct marketing communications (such as email, text, live calls and post) and explains the key aspects of data protection legislation on the use of personal data for direct marketing purposes.

Building an Effective Sales Function

The most important area for any business to understand and influence is that of SALES. Without sales, the business will not operate, and without being on control of your sales, there is a lot of potential to impact on any number of other key areas such as finance, cashflow, operations, supplies etc.

So how do you ensure that you maximise your sales potential, pitch for more business and win more deals? Is sales something of a “black art” to you? How do you take and keep control and how do you get the right price for your product or service?

All of these questions (and more) will be answered in this very accessible, easy to understand, myth-busting workshop. Hosted by Nick Bramley of IMPACTUS Group, one of the Region’s most successful sales experts, Nick will make this session engaging, interesting, thought provoking and even fun. He will help you to shape your sales function for the confidence needed to compete in the future. Whatever your level of experience, from novice to experienced, you will take away a host of practical tips and actions to really support your business aspirations going forward.
