About the company

Danielle Heward came to Leeds about four years ago while working on a contract with the NHS.

She set up DH Professional Solutions in October 2019 while working as a contract project manager for a large outsourcing company. But as Danielle’s work was connected to office moves, the lockdown in March brought a premature end to the contract.

Danielle, who had spent more than 12 years working  in operations, consultancy, change and transformation for organisations like the NHS, local authorities, central government bodies and charities, decided it was time to strike out on her own.

“I’ve always wanted to work for myself. I wanted the freedom to pursue things that interest me and I really want to make a difference to the world we live in,” says Danielle, who lives in Rothwell.

“I’ve worked with a lot of leadership and management teams in highly complex organisations and wanted to take that experience and use it for good.

“I am particularly keen to work with sustainability-focused businesses, like recycling companies and manufacturers of eco products, to help them become more efficient and effective.”

DH Professional Solutions helps businesses to be more effective and to grow, offering business improvement and infrastructure services including people development, process improvement and system implementation. But right now Danielle says her expertise in business change management is most useful.

“Covid means everybody, including myself, is going through change right now, and it probably wasn’t planned. And it is something I can really help with,” she says.

Project objectives

Danielle knew she wanted to work with businesses in the sustainability sector, but had no contacts in that area. She also needed a professional-looking website to help bring in more work.

She had been accepted onto the NatWest Business Accelerator course, which had been very useful, but wanted continued support.

Danielle was given a mentor for one-to-one sessions by AD:VENTURE and attended webinars on topics from GDPR to creating visual content.

She was awarded a Grant by AD:VENTURE, which she had to match-fund. She used the money to pay towards marketing and branding, and website improvements. And was helped with contacts in the sustainability sector and is now growing a network of contacts.

“I have been so impressed by how supportive the Leeds business community is that I really want to give something back locally,” says Danielle.

“I particularly want to support other businesswomen and young people, who are having a tough time right now.

“In my mind sustainability and young people are linked. We need to make sure the planet is still here for those young people to live and work in.”

Danielle is now looking to take on a student on placement to help with marketing, and is considering applying to take on a young person under the Government’s Kickstart scheme.

“The help from AD:VENTURE has been invaluable. The webinars and the grant were really helpful. And within five minutes of talking to my mentor Alan Thompson for the first time he understood what I was talking about.

“He helped me define what my brand and image are and was really helpful on a practical level, with connections and networks. I get so much value from my sessions with Alan, I don’t know what I would have done without him. I really would recommend AD:VENTURE to anyone with a new business.”
