As a kick starter to the Music Futures series of industry masterclasses we will take a snapshot of how the music industry functions today and what the various relationships are between key components.
It has never really been more cost effective to run a music business, provided of course you can sign artists without a whopping advance on their royalties. This is down to the simple fact that by and large the Music Industry is now a digital one.
Streaming and other sources of online content including You Tube are increasing their dominance as consumer platforms but how would this affect publishing and the other staple – Live?
This master class will uncover how labels, publishing and the Live Industry operate today in a digital world.
How there is now increasingly easy access to distribution channels and businesses that you can very easily publish your artists music through, but how do they relate to each other and how can we use their increasing amount of data to make informed decisions when we know that millions of streams may not yet make a star?
And then there is the live sector and its variables, regional promoting, national promoting and festival promoting. Who do they interact with the recording and publishing sides of the industry if at all and how do they use digital to their advantage?
Rather than scratch the surface this masterclass will lift the lid and share an understanding of where the opportunities are for regional music businesses.
Finally, this master class, in advance of a more detailed session later on in the series will provide an overview of the tools that you can use to promote your music via social media and other digital marketing techniques.
